Yin Yoga

yin class

Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative style of yoga that focuses on nourishing the deeper layers of the body: the connective tissues, fascia, ligaments, and joints, through long-held, gentle postures. Unlike more active (Yang) practices, Yin invites stillness and softening. This allows the body to open gradually, supporting flexibility and joint mobility while calming the nervous system.

Yin Yoga is also rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Buddhist breath work, and traditional yoga poses. Each yoga posture is designed to stimulate specific meridians, or energy pathways, that run through the body. By applying gentle, sustained pressure and focusing on the breath, Yin encourages healthy energy flow (Qi), helping to balance the body’s systems and support overall well-being.

Who Yin Is For:

This practice is for anyone who desires a slower, more introspective style of yoga. It’s especially beneficial for those with tight hips, lower back tension, athletes seeking improved mobility, individuals under stress, or anyone looking to create balance in their lives. No prior yoga experience is required. This class welcomes all levels.

What to Expect:

Each class begins with grounding breathwork to help you settle and center. We then move gently into a series of floor-based postures, held for several minutes to allow the fascia to release and energy channels to open. You’ll experience deep relaxation, improved flexibility, and a gentle activation of the liver, kidney, spleen, lung, and heart meridians, depending on the sequence. Soft lighting, calm music, and spacious stillness create an environment where the mind quiets and the body can truly restore.

Health & Energy Benefits:

  • Promotes optimal energy flow through the meridian system

  • Improves circulation and flexibility

  • Balances the parasympathetic nervous system for deep relaxation

  • Encourages emotional release and inner clarity

  • Supports joint health and mobility

  • Cultivates mindfulness and a sense of peaceful presence

What to Bring to Your Yin Class at the Hunt Center:

Props will be available in class, but bringing your own favorite bolster or blanket can make your experience even cozier.
