I just returned from visiting my mom and dad’s house.
My daughters and I spent hours making jewelry with my mother, dragging out her pearl, silver, gold and precious stone beads removing the lace tablecloth and spreading the beads on the dining room table. The table looked like Christmas, all sparkly.
We went on walks too, which is fantastic for my mom who is recovering from surgery.
Yesterday, my daughters and I joined my mother and her gentle dog for an early evening walk down the street. Two of my mom’s neighbors joined us. We took up most of the street, and we sauntered. My Mom is still recovering after all.
Our goal was to get to the end of the street. Earlier that day, Bronwyn and I ran all over the neighborhood for an hour, but walking that evening with my mom suited us perfectly.
We were two houses from our goal, when a fluffy calico cat started stalking mom’s dog. My daughter Arden panicked and gave me the dog’s leash. I tightened my grip as the cat came after Mom’s dog. I have never seen a cat go after a dog before.

So, of course, the dog slipped out of her collar and jumped on the cat.
Three seconds later, and I do mean three seconds, the owner of the cat bolted out of her house and started screaming at the top of her lungs. It was all so unsettling. We got the dog back on the leash, and my daughters quickly walked her back to the house. She was unscathed, but the cat had run away.
The lady was completely freaking out.
My mom and I walked up to her husband, who had appeared in the driveway, and we apologized and asked if we could help.
He was very embarrassed and assured us the cat was fine. We told him where we lived and said to come by if there was anything we could do to help.
Mom was a wreck.
She loves animals, including cats.
We felt certain the cat was OK. It was the crazed woman we were concerned about. We felt horrible that she had been caused so much anguish by Mom’s dog.
We walked on, and Mom made her goal!
This morning, we went back to work on making jewelry. We listened to the soundtrack from the musical Cats.
A little ironic, don’t -cha think?
No screaming lady came to the door much to our relief, and on our way home, I passed by the cat’s house and saw the fluffy cat prancing happily down her driveway.
Before we left, we sat on the back porch and had ice cream cones. While we were sitting there, a lizard came up and stared at us. It was Mom’s lizard who always hangs out with her as she sits on her porch. She calls him Icky. Well, one of her granddaughter’s named him Icky, and Mom decided that name would do just fine.
Mom sits on her porch with a lizard staring at her while I sit on my porch a state away with a lizard staring at me.
Odd, isn’t it?
